Eight Ways to Tie a Tie

There’s no denying, men must have used a tie at least once in their life – prom, baptism, birthday, wedding – you name it, they use it. It’s an outfit staple.

However, most men use a specific tie knot their entire lives. Not that because humans are creatures of habit but because there are no easy guides for us to do it.

The good news is, we’ve got your back! Here we’ll show you eight different ways to tie a tie, and you could give all of them a go. Don’t be afraid to experiment and find your style!

1.  Prince Albert Knot

1. Loop the tie around your collar with the thick end much lower than the thin end.
2. Cross the thick end in front of the thin end.
3. Cross the thick end behind the thin end from right to left.
4. Cross the thick end again in front of the thin end from left to right, creating two loops.
5. Cross the thick end again behind the thin end until a third loop is created.
6. Bring the thick end upward by sliding it beneath the loop around your neck.
7. Pull the thick end down all the way through.
8. Finally, tighten the knot by gently holding it in one hand and the thin end on the other.

2. Full Windsor Knot

1.  Loop the tie around your collar with the thick end on the left 3-4 inches lower than the thin end.
2. Cross the thick end around the thin end upward.
3. Tuck the thick end down towards the right.
4. Cross the thick end behind the thin end to the left.
5. Bring the thick end again upward in front of the thin end.
6. Tuck the thick end down towards the left.
7. Bring the thick end by crossing it horizontally in front of the knot from left to right. Slip a finger beneath this horizontal band to create a loop.
8. Repeat step 2.
9. Pull the thick end down, sliding through the loop you have held with your finger.
10. Finally, pull the thick end all the way through and tighten the knot by gently holding it in one hand and the thin end on the other.

3.  Pratt-Shelby Knot

1. Loop the tie around your collar with the thick end on the left and its tip preferably 1-2 inches lower than the desired spot.
2.  Cross the thick end behind the thin end.
3. Pull the thick end upward and slide it beneath the loop around your neck.
4. Tuck the thick end down towards the right.
5. Bring the thick end by crossing it horizontally in front of the knot from right to left. Slip a finger beneath this horizontal band to create a loop.
6. Bring the tip of the thick end upward and slide it beneath the loop around your neck.
7. Pull the thick end down, sliding through the loop you have held with your finger.
8. Finally, pull the thick end all the way through and tighten the knot by gently holding it in one hand and the thin end on the other.

4. Four In Hand Knot

1. Loop the tie around your collar with the thick end on the left 3-4 inches lower than the thin end.
2.  Cross the thick end in front of the thin end.
3. Wrap the thick end behind the thin end by crossing it horizontally from right to left.
4. Do it one more time by bringing the thick end horizontally across the knot.
5. Slide the thick end upward and slip a finger beneath this horizontal band to create a loop.
6. Bring the tip of the thick end upward and slide it beneath the loop around your neck.
7. Pull the thick end down, sliding through the loop you have held with your finger.
8.  Finally, pull the thick end all the way through and tighten the knot by gently holding it in one hand and the thin end on the other.

5.  Oriental Knot

1. Loop the reverse side of your tie around your collar with the thick end on the left much lower than the thin end.
2.  Cross the thick end behind the thin end.
3. Cross the thick end in front of the thin end from right to left and slip a finger beneath this horizontal band to create a loop.
4. Bring the tip of the thick end upward and slide it beneath the loop around your neck.
5. Pull the thick end down, sliding through the loop you have held with your finger.
6. Finally, pull the thick end all the way through and tighten the knot by gently holding it in one hand and the thin end on the other.

6. Half Windsor Knot

1. Loop the tie around your collar with the thick end on the left 3-4 inches lower than the thin end.
2.  Bring the thick end behind by crossing it in front of the thin end and crossing it again horizontally from right to left.
3. Bring the thick end upward.
4. Bring the thick end down by sliding it beneath the loop around your neck.
5. Bring the thick end horizontally in front of the knot from right to left.
6. Bring the thick end up by sliding it beneath the loop around your neck and slip a finger beneath this horizontal band to create a loop.
7. Finally, pull the thick end all the way through and tighten the knot by gently holding it in one hand and the thin end on the other.

7. Kelvin Knot

1. Loop the reverse side of your tie around your collar with the thick end much lower than the thin end.
